The Solitary Sandpiper (Tringa solitaria) is a breeding species across much of Canada and Alaska. The species migrates across most of the lower 48 states and winters on the coasts of our southern states as well as many inland areas in the south. The first three images on this page show a wintering Solitary Sandpiper at Santa Ana N.W.R., Hidalgo Co., Texas, in December, 2010. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens.
