Pheucticus ludovicianus
The Rose-breasted Grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus) is a fairly common nesting species of the northeastern and north central United States as well as parts of central Canada. The species winters in southern Mexico as well as much of Central America and northern South America. The adult male in the first three images shown here was a spring migrant at South Padre Island, Cameron Co., Texas, in April, 2009. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
