| The Rock Ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) is a northern grouse that ranges across northern Canada and much of Alaska. As the common name implies, it is often found on high rocky slopes and tundra regions. The images on this page, of winter plumage birds moulting toward summer plumage, were all taken near Nome, Alaska, in May and June 2012. |  |
