The Red-necked Stint (Calidris ruficollis) is an old world species which occurs rarely in western Alaska. It has wandered casually to the lower 48 states, but is usually encountered only in Alaska. The shots here show a breeding plumaged bird at Gambell, St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, in May, 2012. The bird was at this location for about an hour then was not seen again to my knowledge.
