Purple Finch
Carpodacus purpureus
The Purple Finch (Carpodacus purpureus) is a nesting bird of the northeastern United States and much of Canada. It also nests in parts of the western United States in Washington, Oregon and California. Wintering birds may be found across the entire eastern half of the U.S. The first 4 shots on this page show male Purple Finches near Errol, New Hampshire, in June, 2010. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
