Long-eared Owl
Asio otus
The Long-eared Owl (Asio otus) breeds across much of the northern half of the United States and southern Canada. It winters southward across the Midwest and into Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. This has always been a species which I have had difficulty getting good photos of, but I'll post a few. The first two shots show a bird in a thicket in San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas, in March, 1995. The third shot shows a bird in the far northwest corner of the Texas Panhandle in Dallam County, in February, 1997. Both these images were taken with a Canon T-90 and Sigma 500mm F/4.5 lens on Fuji Sensia film.
