Little Blue Heron
Egretta caerulea
The Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea) is essentially a bird of the southeastern United States, Mexico and Central America. It may also be found in parts of South America. It can be quite common in wetland habitats within its range. The individual on the right was in Fort Myers, Lee Co., Florida in November, 2006. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
Immature Little Blue Herons have white plumage. The bird shown here was at Brazos Bend State Park in February, 1998, and was photographed with a Canon T-90 and a Sigma 500mm F/4.5 lens on Fuji Sensia film.
The immature Little Blue Heron on the right was in Kenedy Co., Texas in April, 2002, and was photographed with a Canon EOS 1V and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
The Little Blue Heron on the right was at Gallon Jug, Orange Walk District, Belize, in December, 1999.
The adult Little Blue Heron shown here was on Sanibel Island, Lee Co., Florida, in December, 2007. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 40D and an EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
