The Harlequin Duck (Histrionicus histrionicus) is one of the most visually striking ducks in the world. The complicated plumage of the male showing a dark gray and white pattern with bits of rusty orange on the head and on the flanks is a real eye-catcher. The female is brownish overall but with distinctive facial patches. The fisr six shots show a male and female near Nome, Alaska, in June, 2012. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The next two shots show a pair of Harlequin Ducks in a stream near Nome, Alaska, also in June, 2012.
