Gull-billed Tern
Gelochelidon nilotica
The Gull-billed Tern (Gelochelidon nilotica) is a widespread coastal tern found along all along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts of the United States. The species is also found in parts of California and Mexico. It is somewhat more stocky in build than many of our other terns and has a thicker and somewhat shorter bill than many other species. The Gull-billed Terns in flight in the top 6 images shown here were at Anahuac N.W.R., Chambers Co., Texas, in June, 2008. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 40D and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
