| The Green Heron (Butorides virescens) is a widespread, small heron which is found in both salt-water and fresh-water marshes, ponds and other wet areas. It was formerly known as Green-backed Heron. It is most common in the eastern United States, but is found in many areas of the west as well. The immature bird shown here was fishing from an exposed perch in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in July, 1999, and was shot with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 600mm F/4 L lens on Fuji Sensia. The adult at right was photographed in Kenedy Co., Texas, in April, 2000, with the same gear but on Fuji Velvia. |  |
