The Golden-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia atricapilla) is a western species which nests from northern California north across Alaska. In winter, the species may occur south to Baja and occasionally east as far as Texas. The first four shots on this page show a Golden-crowned Sparrow at the Arctic Valley Ski Area near Anchorage, Alaska, in May, 2012. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The next two shots show Golden-crowned Sparrows at Nome, Alaska, in June, 2012. The same photo gear as the previous images was used.
