Gambel's Quail
Callipepla gambelii
The Gambel's Quail (Callipepla gambelii) is a common desert bird of much of the American Southwest from far west Texas to southern California and northward into parts of Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. The shot to the left and the one below left were digital captures in Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, in April, 2003, with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4 X extender. The shot at right this text was at the same location, but two years later with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and the same lens.
The next 13 images of male and female Gambel's Quail were taken in March, 2009, in Catalina, Pima Co., Arizona, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
