Common Yellowthroat
Geothlypis trichas
The Common Yellowthroat (Geothlypis trichas) is a widespread warbler across most of North America, breeding from Mexico to Alaska. There are many subspecies recognized and its song varies somewhat depending upon the location. The singing male shown here and the next two shots on the right right was defending a territory in a scrubby thicket in the Angelina National Forest in Angelina Co., Texas in June, 2003. The photos are digital captures and were shot with a Canon EOS 10D and 600 mm F4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The female Common Yellowthroat on the right was foraging along the edges of a marsh in Kenedy Co., Texas, in January, 2000. The shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 600mm F/4 L lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Provia film.
The singing Common Yellowthroat on the right was at Red Rocks Lake N.W.R., Beaverhead Co., Montana, in June, 2001. It was photographed with the same gear as the shot just before.
