The Common Loon (Gavia immer) nests across most of Canada and Alaska. The hauntying, yodeling calls of this bird in the summer are a familiar sound to those people who ive near a lake in the far north. The species winters across much of the southern portions of the United States. The winter plumaged bird in the top 5 images on this page was at Balmorhea Lake, Reeves Co., Texas, in January, 2009. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. | |
