Bonaparte's Gull
Larus philadelphia
The Bonaparte's Gull (Larus philadelphia) breeds across much of Canada and Alaska and winters along the Pacific, Atlantic, and Gulf coasts of the United States. Many also winter on inland fresh water lakes. The first 2 images of immature Bonaparte's Gulls shown here were taken on the Quintana Jetty near Freeport, Brazoria Co., Texas, in December, 2006 with a Canon EOS 1D mark II and a 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The next 3 shots shown here were taken on a gray and rainy day in Metlakatla, Annette Island, Alaska, in August, 2008 and show adult Bonaparte's Gulls beginning their post-breeding moult.
