The *Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax)* is a very widespread bird of all the Americas as well as parts of Africa and Eurasia. Within the United States it can often be commonly found at a wide variety of wetland habitats. The adult shown here was photographed at Anahuac N.W.R., Chambers Co., Texas, in April, 1996 with a Canon T-90 and Sigma 500mm F/4.5 lens on Fuji Sensia film. Scroll down for more photos.
The adult shown here as well as the shot of a group of immature birds just below, were shot at Bear River N.W.R., Box Elder Co., Utah, in August 1999.

The immature Black-crowned Night-Heron below was on the edge of a grassy cliff overlooking the ocean on Sea Lion Island, Falkland Islands, in January, 1996.
The immature shown here was in Kenedy Co., Texas, in April, 2000. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 600mm F/4 L lens on Fuji Provia film.
The adult Black-crowned Night-Heron at right was at Brazos Bend State Park, Fort Bend Co., Texas, in February, 2007. This digital image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens.
