The Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) is a very widespread bird of all the Americas as well as parts of Africa and Eurasia. Within the United States it can often be commonly found at a wide variety of wetland habitats. The adult shown here was photographed at Anahuac N.W.R., Chambers Co., Texas, in April, 1996 with a Canon T-90 and Sigma 500mm F/4.5 lens on Fuji Sensia film. Scroll down for more photos.
The adult shown here as well as the shot of a group of immature birds just below, were shot at Bear River N.W.R., Box Elder Co., Utah, in August 1999.
The immature Black-crowned Night-Heron below was on the edge of a grassy cliff overlooking the ocean on Sea Lion Island, Falkland Islands, in January, 1996.
