Black-capped Chickadee
Poecile atricapillus
The Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) is a permanent resident across the northern two-thirds of the United States as well as most of Canada. It is a familiar feeder and garden bird to many backyard birdwatchers. It's lively activities and habits make it a special favorite. The Black-capped Chickadees in the top five images shown here were photographed near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in November, 1998, with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 300mm F/2.8 L lens and 2X extender on Fuji Sensia film.
The next two shots show a Black-capped Chickadee at Potter Marsh, Anchorage, Alaska, in May, 2012. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
