The Black-billed Magpie (Pica hudsonia) is a resident of much of the American west from Alaska across western and central Canada into the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains. It may wander rarely as far south as the Texas Panhandle. It is typically a fairly social species and groups of these birds may forage together on many occasions. The magpie on the right was in Anchorage, Alaska, in May, 2012.
The next four shots of a Black-billed Magpie were taken on the lower slopes of Hatcher Pass near Palmer, Alaska, in June, 2012.
