The Belted Kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon), formerly Ceryle alcyon, is a widespread bird across North America, Central America and parts of northern South America. The bird inhabits lakes, ponds and marshes and rivers where it hunts for small fish. The Belted Kingfisher below was flying along a waterway at Aransas N.W.R., Aransas Co., Texas, in November, 2006. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
