The American Dipper (Cinclus mexicanus) occurs along mountain streams from parts of southern Mexico north through the western United States into Alaska. Dippers are unique in their ability to walk and swim underwater even in swiftly flowing streams. They have white feathers on their eye-lids which cause the eyes to seemingly blink black and white. The first nine shots on this page were taken along Campbell Creek near Anchorage, Alaska, in May, 2012 with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The juvenile American Dipper on the right was exploring the area near the nest in June, 2012, near Paxson, Alaska.
