Chestnut-colored Woodpecker
Celeus castaneus
The colorful Chestnut-colored Woodpecker (Celeus castaneus) is a resident of tropical lowland forest from southern Mexico and Belize south to Panama. With its rusty colored crest and head, bright red face and yellow bill, this bird certainly catches the eye. The individual shown in the three shots shown here was foraging in some orange trees at Chan Chich, Orange Walk District, Belize, in December, 1999. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 300mm F/2.8 L lens and 2X extender on Fuji Provia film.
