Southern Fulmar
Fulmarus glacialoides
The Southern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialoides) is also known as Antarctic Fulmar by some authors. This species is seen regularly while cruising through the waters of the Antarctic Peninsula aboard ship. The two photos here were taken with a Canon T-90 & FD400mm F/4.5 lens mounted on a BushHawk shoulder mount with Kodachrome 200 film in January, 1998, along the Antarctic Peninsula.
This shot shows a fulmar with a Cape Petrel (Daption capense) for an interesting comparison. Unlike its northern relative, the Northern Fulmar (F. glacialis), these southern birds only show a single color morph.
