The Pintail (Acisoma panorpoides), also known as Grizzled Pintail by some authors, is quite widespread from the Mediterranean region into Asia, the Indian Ocean area, Madagascar and parts of Africa. It is a tiny dragonfly which is easy to overlook. The first image shown here, a male, was photographed along the Olifantspruit River near Nylstroom, Limpopo Province, South Africa in January, 2006. The other photos of males and females of various ages, were taken along the Dorps River near Lyndenburg, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa, also in January, 2006. All shots were with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender with a 580 flash. |
