Cassin's Finch
Carpodacus cassinii
The Cassin's Finch (Carpodacus cassinii) is a finch of the montane western United States and parts of western Canada. During winter some migrate south into Texas and Mexico. The first three shots shown here were taken at Jacob Lake, Coconino Co., Arizona during August, 1999, with a Canon T-90 and a FD 400mm F/5.6 lens on Fuji Sensia film. The first two shots show a fall-plumaged male while the third shot shows a juvenile bird.
The shot at right is of a male Cassin's Finch near a nest site at Crouse Reservoir, Daggett Co., Utah, in June, 2001.This image was taken with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 600mm F/4 L lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Provia film.
The male Cassin's Finch shown here was at Breckenridge, Summit Co., Colorado, in June, 2007 and was shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F.4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The next 10 shots of Cassin's Finch were taken in Breckenridge, Summit Co., Colorado, in July, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. There are three shots of a juvenile bird and seven shots of male bird, partially in moult.
