Blue Jay
Cyanocitta cristata
The Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is a common, widespread, and very familiar bird across the eastern two-thirds of the United States and much of Canada. It is a permanent resident in these regions, but some numbers do in fact disperse southward during winter. The first 3 images shown here show a recently fledged young Blue Jay in a suburban back yard in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in June, 2008. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens.
The next 3 shots of a Blue Jay were taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in April, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
The Blue Jay on the right was at Dripping Springs, Hays Co., Texas, in January, 2013.
