Black-chinned Hummingbird
Archilochus alexandri
The Black-chinned Hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri) is essentially a species of the western U.S. and Mexico, although vagrants have occurred some winters all the way to the east coast. The female on a nest in the top two shots as well as the same bird feeding young was photographed in May, 2005, in Travis Co., Texas with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and fill flash.
The male Black-chinned Hummingbird in the next 7 images was bathing on a flat rock under a water drip in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in March, 2010. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
The next three shots of a male Black-chinned Hummingbird were taken in Dripping Springs, Hays Co., Texas, in April, 2013.
