American Robin
Turdus migratorius
The American Robin (Turdus migratorius) nests across almost all of the United States and Canada. The species withdraws from Canada and much of the northern U.S. during the winter. It is a very familiar species to most people in North America since it enjoys foraging on lawns and gardens in a conspicuous manner. The adult shown here was at Red Rocks Lake N.W.R., Beaverhead Co., Montana, in June, 2001. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 600mm F/4 L le4ns on Fuji Provia film.
The American Robin shown here was hopping around an suburban lawn in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in March, 2005. This was a digital capture with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
The next two shots show an American Robin in Bastrop Co., Texas,in March, 2006. Robins will often come to a bird bath as the 2nd shot illustrates. These were taken with the same equipment as the shot just previous.
