The American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis) is a conspicuous and familiar bird across much of the United States. The species breeds across the northern two-thirds of the United States as well as much of southern Canada while it winters over the middle and southern portions of the United States. The male bird shown here was perched in a blooming Redbud Tree in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in March, 2005.
