Song Sparrow
Melospiza melodia
The Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia) is a breeding species of most of the northern two-thirds of the United States and most of Canada. The bird winters in the southern two-thirds of the U.S. The first two shots here show a wintering Song Sparrow at Bosque del Apache N.W.R., Socorro Co., New Mexico, in November, 2005. These digital images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The next two shots show a Song Sparrow in Caprock Canyons State Park, Briscoe Co., Texas, in December, 2005. These two shots were taken with the same gear as the top two images.
 
The territorial and singing Song Sparrow in the next two shots was at Coyote Creek State Park, Mora Co., New Mexico, in June, 2007. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
