Snowy Plover
Charadrius nivosus
The Snowy Plover (Charadrius nivosus) is a small shorebird which nests on dry, barren patches of beaches, alkali playas and lake edges. It winters along the Gulf coast as well as the Pacific coast. The Snowy Plover shown here was resting on the beach at Quintana, Brazoria Co., Texas, in October, 1998. The shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 300mm F/2.8 L lens and 2X extender on Fuji Sensia.
The next five shots of Snowy Plover were also taken at Quintana Beach, Brazoria Co., Texas, but in March, 2007. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The next three images were taken at the same location as above, the beach at Quintana, Brazoria Co, Texas on the Texas Gulf Coast. These three shots were taken in December, 2007, with a Canon EOS 40D and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
