Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Archilochus colubris
The Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) is the only hummingbird species which is commonly encountered in the eastern half of the United States and as such is familiar to millions of Americans as a welcome visitor to their gardens and hummingbird feeders. It is quite common and widespread throughout its range. The individuals shown here were migrants that were photographed in Kenedy Co., Texas on their northward journey in April, 2000, with a Canon EOS 1N and a Canon EF 300 F2.8L lens and 2X extender and a flash on Fuji Velvia pushed one stop. A Bogen tripod was also used. There are four shots of a male and two shots of a female (below).
