Swift Setwing
Dythemis velox
The Swift Setwing (Dythemis velox) occurs in the southern U.S, but it is most common in Texas. The first two shots here were digital captures in Travis Co., Texas in June, 2003, and were shot with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200 mm F2.8 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 550 EX flash. The 2nd shot shows a Swift Setwing with a large number of water mites on its thorax.
The next two images were taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in July, 2007, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X TC and 580 flash.
The male Swift Setwing shown here was in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in August, 2009. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 50D and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender and 580 flash.
The female Swift Setwing on the right was in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in July, 2012. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
