Sweetflag Spreadwing
Lestes forcipatus
The Sweetflag Spreadwing (Lestes forcipatus) is a widespread spreadwing species occurring from western Canada and the northwestern United States to the Atlantic coast of New England and Canada. It is very similar to Northern Spreadwing (Lestes disjunctus) but the Sweetflag female has a longer ovipositor which may be seen in some of the below images. The first 7 images on this page were taken in Rockingham Co., New Hampshire, in August, 2009, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
