The Spotted Spreadwing (Lestes congener) is a widespread damselfly ranging across much of the United States except for the deep south and Texas. The two black marks on the underside of the thorax is where it gets its common name. The first ten shots on this page were taken on the Brett Gray Ranch, a Nature Conservancy property, in Lincoln Co., Colorado, in July, 2011. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash. The one of the right is a teneral individual.
