| The Serpent Ringtail (Erpetogomphus lampropeltis) occurs from southern California to far west Texas. It is similar to other ringtail species, but the western form shows a grayish-green thorax. The first nine shots on this page were taken on Piru Creek, Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles Co., California, in August, 2012, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender with 580 flash. Go forward to image 10 for a series of shots of the Serpent Ringtail form which occurs in west Texas and Arizona; it is quite different in appearance but considered the same species. |  |
