Paltothemis lineatipes
The Red Rock Skimmer (Paltothemis lineatipes) occurs across much of the southwestern United States, parts of Mexico and southward to Costa Rica. It often can be found flying up and down sunny, rocky streams in deserts or in mountain regions. The first two shots here were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 300 mm F/4L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 EX flash. These images were taken along the San Carlos River in Gila County, Arizona in April 2005.
The Red Rock Skimmer shown here was in the Davis Mountains of west Texas in June, 2005, and was shot with the same gear as described previously.
The Red Rock Skimmers in the next 2 shots were in Presidio Co., Texas, in May, 2008. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The male Red Rock Skimmer in the next 3 shots was at Big Bend Ranch State Park, Presidio Co., Texas, in September, 2009. These 3 images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
