In Texas this species occurs in the Trans-Pecos area and in parts of the Panhandle. The male Plains Forktail shown here was at the Bear River N.W.R., Box Elder Co., Utah, in June, 2007. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The pair of Plains Forktails in copula on the right was on the Brett Gray Ranch, a Nature Conservancy property, in Lincoln Co., Colorado, in July, 2011. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
