The Piedmont Clubtail (Gomphus parvidens) is a dragonfly of streams and rivers in the southeastern United States from parts of Alabama eastward to Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia. It is a small, colorful and active dragon and may be found fairly commonly in some areas. The first seven images show mature males on the Chattooga River which forms the boundary between Rabun Co., Georgia and Oconee Co., South Carolina. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
The newly emerged teneral female on the right was on Sarah's Creek in the Chattahoochee National Forest, Rabun Co., Georgia, in May, 2011.
