Libellula croceipennis
The Neon Skimmer (Libellula croceipennis) is a fairly common southwestern dragonfly, and a beautiful, flashy red creature to watch as it forages over a small pond. The images shown here, digital captures, were shot in May, 2003, in Austin, Travis Co., Texas. The camera was a Canon EOS 10D with an EF 300 F4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The male shown here was near Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in August, 2003. It was shot with the same gear as described previously.
The young male shown here was near Bee Cave, Travis Co., Texas, in June, 2005. It was shot with a Cannon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
The immature Neon Skimmer shown here was at Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in August, 2007, and was shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and the same lens and flash as earlier shots.
The male shown here was in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in November, 2007, and was shot with the same gear as the image preceding.
