Marsh Bluet
Enallagma ebrium
The Marsh Bluet (Enallagma ebrium) is another of the very similar species of bluets requiring care to separate in the field. It is usually necessary to examine the shape of the cerci in hand to confirm an identification of this species. The species occurs across much of the northern United States and parts of southern Canada. The first 3 shots on this page were taken in Broome Co., New York, in July, 2009, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
The next 2 shots show a pair of Marsh Bluets in August, 2009, in Washington Co., Maine. The same photo gear as above was used for these images.
The next five images of male Marsh Bluets were taken in the Turtle Mountain area of Bottineau Co., North Dakota, in July, 2011, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
