Grappletail
Octogomphus specularis
The Grappletail (Octogomphus specularis) is a clubtail of the extreme western United States and far southwest British Columbia. This dragonfly likes partially shaded, clear mountain streams. It gets its common name from the male's odd looking appendages. The first 15 images on this page were all taken at the Gold Lake Campground, Willamette National Forest, Lane Co., Oregon, in August, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender. The first 13 images are of males while the 14th and 15th are of females.
