| The Ebony Jewelwing (Calopteryx maculata) is a large, dark damselfly of shaded streams and rivers across much of the eastern United States. It is a stunning creature with a bouncy flight and courtship displays. Several of these damsels dancing over a stream create quite a beautiful scene. The damsels in the top 4 shots on this page were all digital captures in May 2003 in the Angelina National Forest near Zavalla, Angelina Co., Texas. They were shot with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 300 mm F4 L IS lens with a 1.4 extender and 550 EX flash. The male has dark wings and the female shows white stigmas. |  |
