Desert Forktail
Ischnura barberi
The Desert Forktail (Ischnura barberi) is a widespread but often local damselfly of the southwest. In Texas this species occurs in the Trans-Pecos area and in other isolated areas of west Texas. The first two shots on this page were taken along the edge of the Colorado River near Colorado City in Mitchell Co., Texas in Augus,t 2004, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 180 Macro F/3.5 lens and 1.4X extender.
The next four shots show a male Desert Forktail feeding on an Argia species damselfly. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash at the BLM overflow wetlands, Chavez Co., New Mexico, in August, 2011.
