Crimson-ringed Whiteface
Leucorrhinia glacialis
The Crimson-ringed Whiteface (Leucorrhinia glacialis) occurs in the northern third of the U.S. as well as southern Canada. The male shown here along with the pair in copula were photographed in Algonquin Provincial Park, Nipissing Co., Ontario, Canada, in July, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 580 EX flash. The habitat where this photo was taken was a peat bog and the species was quite abundant.
The next 5 shots of male Crimson-ringed Whiteface were taken in the Deschutes National Forest, Deschutes Co., Oregon, in August, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
