Chalk-fronted Corporal
Ladona julia
The Chalk-fronted Corporal (Ladona julia) mainly occurs in the northeast and northwest U.S., as well as parts of Canada. There are a number of records well south of this range, however. The first shots here were taken in Algonquin Provincial Park, Nipissing Co., Ontario, Canada, in July, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 580 EX flash.
The next 5 shots of Chalk-fronted Corporal were taken at Crane Prairie Reservoir, Deschutes National Forest, Deschutes Co., Oregon, in August, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender. The first 3 shots are of females, followed by 2 shots of males.
The female shown here was at Little Cultus Lake, Deschutes Co., Oregon, also in August, 2008. The two shots of a male on a tree trunk just below were at this same location.
The female shown here was in the Willamette National Forest, Lane Co., Oregon, in August, 2008.
The next 4 shots of male Chalk-fronted Corporals were taken at Black Moshannon State Park, Centre Co., Pennsylvania, in June, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
