Aeshna tuberculifera
The Black-tipped Darner (Aeshna tuberculifera) is a species which occurs in the extreme northwestern United States and southwest Canada as well as the northeastern U.S. and eastern Canada. It seems to be absent from the great plains area. The female shown here as well as another in the next image were photographed in Rockingham Co., New Hampshire in August, 2009, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
The female in this shot was posed.
