Harris's Sparrow
Zonotrichia querula
The Harris's Sparrow (Zonotrichia querula) nests only in Canada, west of Hudson Bay, and winters in the central United States from Nebraska down to Texas. It is our largest sparrow. The shots here show a wintering individual in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in November, 2002. It was photographed with a Canon EOS 1V and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Velvia.
