Dolphin Gull
Larus scoresbii
The Dolphin Gull (Larus scoresbii) is an uncommon gull of extreme southern South America in Argentina and Chile. It also occurs on the Falkland Islands. The bird at right was perched on a tie-down rope of a cruise ship at Ushuaia, Argentina on the Beagle Channel, in February, 2003. The shot was taken with a Canon D60 and EF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender. The next three shots show Dolphin Gulls in flight as they patrolled a shag colony at Bleaker Island in the Falklands in February, 2000. These gulls are on the watch for any injured chick or unguarded egg so that they might get a meal. These were shot with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Velvia.
This shot is from January, 1996, on Sea Lion Island in the Falklands and shows a Dolphin Gull standing along a rocky shoreline. This was taken with a Canon T-90 and an FD 400mm F/5.6 lens on Fuji Sensia.
