| The robber on this page is known as Hadrokolos texanus. It is a very tiny robber fly, just over 5 mm in length, as may be seen in one of the images presented here. My friend, Eric Isley, originally found these little guys at one of our local parks in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, and for a few weeks we had fun trying to get images of them before they disappeared for the season. The first 17 shots on this page were all taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in August and September, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV. Some of the images were taken with a Canon 180mm Macro with extension tubes and the others were taken with a Canon 100mm Macro with extension tubes. I believe these photos Eric and I have of this tiny robber are likely some of the only ever taken of this species in the wild. |
